No-tech Distant Communication
In 2020 the initiative “Create Cures” was launched in China. It brought together a select group of global designers and creative studios tasked with responding to the global Covid-19 outbreak. Our contribution to this initiative is the Sound Chair, a piece of public furniture designed to enable distant communication based on parabolic reflection.
Sustainability + Furniture + Industrial Design
Our Starting Point
Shouting over the fence at your neighbor, engaging in conversations with folks six feet apart while wearing face masks, and relying on technology for communication have become part of the new normal. In light of this, we pondered how to foster more natural and unmediated distance communication. Our quest led us to explore the solutions that humans have historically employed for distant, analog communication.
Special thanks to Studio Collin Senner that produced these fabulous visuals of the ‘Sound Chair’.
